Trojan Book Bag FAQs

General

What is the Trojan Book Bag program?

Trojan Book Bag is a new course material program offered by Barnes & Noble's First Day Complete Program that lowers the cost of materials and provides students with their required course materials on a rental basis by or before the first day of class. Through this new program, physical books will be conveniently packaged; students decide between in-store pick up or shipped directly to them. Digital materials will be delivered directly within Canvas. At the end of the semester/term, students will receive email reminders from the bookstore to return their physical course materials.

How do I enroll in the program?

All students (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral) will be automatically enrolled in the Trojan Book Bag program when registering for classes.

What is included in the program?

The Trojan Book Bag provides all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital (textbook) versions to all students who have not opted out of the program.

What is excluded from the program?

Trojan Book Bag does NOT include recommended course materials and supplies or consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits or nursing kits.

How does the program work?
  • Register for your classes.
  • One month before classes start, you will receive an email from coursematerials@email.bncollege.com instructing you to select your delivery preference for physical textbooks (in-store pickup or shipped to you; there is a shipping cost payable to the bookstore).
  • The bookstore will start preparing your course materials.
  • An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup at your campus or when your order ships.
  • Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Canvas.
Can I choose to participate for some classes but not others?
No, participation in this program is all-in or all-out for the semester/term.
How does Trojan Book Bag benefit students?
Trojan Book Bag makes getting textbooks easier on students, which will ultimately improve their academic success. Not only will students receive their textbooks by or before the first day of class, they will also save an average of 35%-50% on required course materials.
How can we be sure that this will lower textbook costs for TROY students?
Barnes & Noble is committed to lowering the costs of course material to our students, and with its integrated supply chain and economies of scale, the Trojan Book Bag program brings a new innovative way to provide the most affordable solution for our students.

Payment

What is the cost of the Trojan Book Bag?

The Trojan Book Bag charge is $21 per credit hour and will be automatically added to the TROY student account via the registration process for each semester / term.

Do I pay 好色先生TV or the bookstore for the Trojan Book Bag?

The Trojan Book Bag charge will be included on your TROY student account when you register for classes.

Upon clicking on the link to verify your required course materials (via the email you received or the 鈥渧erify your order鈥 button above), you will be taken to the bookstore website to select your fulfillment preference. At that time, you may add recommended textbooks, supplies, and/or merchandise. If you purchase these additional items and select to have your textbooks shipped to you, payment will be due. Payment methods include excess Student Financial Aid, Sponsor payment or self-pay.

If any of my classes use an Open Education Resource (OER) or does not require course materials, do I still have to pay the Trojan Book Bag charge?

Yes, you will be charged $21 per credit hour for the courses you have registered for. With the Trojan Book Bag rental program, you pay for the total number of credit hours taken in the semester and/or term, not by the course. You have the choice to opt-out of the program for the whole semester and/or term, if you determine the cost of the Trojan Book Bag is not beneficial to you.

What happens if I never verify my order?

If the student does not verify their order and does not opt-out, their required physical textbooks will be held at the bookstore, digital materials will be accessible within Canvas, and the TROY student account will be charged. Students will receive emails and phone calls from the bookstore to remind them to verify their order and choose their fulfillment preference. Please go to to complete this task.

If I never pick up my books, will I still be charged?

Yes, if the student does not opt-out, required physical textbooks will be held at the bookstore, digital materials will be accessed within Canvas and the TROY student account will be charged.

Will I be able to buy my rented books once I have completed a course?

Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period. Students will need to work directly with the bookstore if they wish to purchase. The reduced rate is based upon the market value of that unique material.

If I withdraw from the University, will I receive a refund?

No, after the last day of free drop/add, the TROY student account will be charged $21 per credit hour.

Materials

Will I receive physical or digital versions of my materials?

Required course materials will be provided in the format requested by Faculty. Your bundle may include a mix of physical and digital course materials.

How will I receive my materials?

Based on your selection preference, physical textbooks can be picked up at your campus bookstore, or the textbooks can be shipped to you. If you choose shipping, you will be responsible to pay the bookstore for the shipping costs. Payment methods include excess Student Financial Aid, Sponsor payment or self-pay. Digital materials will be automatically populated to your course(s) within Canvas.

How do I access my digital course materials included in the Trojan Book Bag?
  1. Most digital materials will be available directly within Canvas in one of three ways:
    1. Access code reveal: Click on the Trojan Book Bag link in the course in Canvas that takes you to the bookstore's digital materials platform. A code will be revealed to you for access to your course materials. Follow the directions provided with the code.
    2. Bookstore direct access: Click on the Trojan Book Bag link in the course in Canvas. This will take you to the bookstore's digital materials platform. Click on the materials and access them directly through this platform.
    3. Publisher direct access: You will see a publisher link in the Canvas course, for example McGraw Hill Connect. Click on that link, and it will take you directly to the course materials on the publisher's site. You will have codeless access.
  2. Some digital materials may be distributed as an access card or email. Follow the instructions on the access card or within the email.
What if I have questions or trouble accessing my digital course materials?
For any questions or trouble that you may encounter, contact Bookstore Customer Care at bookstorecustomercare@bncollege.com
What if I need an accessible format?
Students with disabilities who need course materials in an accessible format should contact Student Disability Services. The bookstore can accommodate students with accessibility needs.
What do I do if I have not received my textbooks?
Orders cannot be processed until your order is verified. If you have already verified your order, call or go to your campus bookstore and give them your order number so they can check on the status of your order.
What if I make changes to my course schedule?
If course materials have been picked up or delivered for a dropped class, those materials should be returned to the bookstore within 48 hours. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will 鈥渟wap鈥 the required physical rental textbooks and/or access codes to ensure that you have what you need for your current course schedule.
I just registered for a class with digital materials, but it鈥檚 after the class start date. When will I receive my materials?
You should have access to those digital materials the following day.
I just registered for a class after the class start date. This course has physical course materials that are NOT delivered within Canvas. When will I receive those?
You should receive an email within 24 hours to make your selection of how to receive your course materials. If you select in-store pick up, your textbooks will be available at the campus bookstore. Most of the time the bookstore will have the textbook available to pick up, but there is a chance they may have to order the textbook for you to pick up at a later date. If you are an online student and the materials have to be shipped to you, please allow time for that.
When are my textbook rentals due back to the bookstore?
The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of final exams for the semester/term. Students will receive email reminders from Barnes & Noble ahead of the rental deadline to their email address. Please check the customer copy form included with your Trojan Book Bag to identify the rental materials to be returned. Lab manuals and workbooks are yours to keep.
Do I need to return books if they are for a continuation course?
Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course rental textbooks. You will be issued the same rental title for the next semester of the continuation course. Please work directly with the bookstore if you wish to purchase the continuation course rental textbook at a reduced rate during the return period.

Can I opt-out of the program?

While it is NOT recommended, a student has the choice to opt-out of the Trojan Book Bag program for ALL classes for the semester and term if he/she determines it is financially beneficial to do so. You may not opt-out on a course-by-course basis. The opt-out window opens approximately 30 days prior to the start of classes and closes on the last day of free drop/add. By opting out, you will not receive your required course materials in a convenient package at a reduced rate and your access to digital content will be removed from Canvas after the opt-out window closes.

How do I opt-out?
