Organizational Sketch: Incorporated in 1965, the Third District Dental Society is a nonprofit corporation whose mission includes promoting the dental profession, providing continuing education to its members, and representing the interest of its membership.  Part of the Alabama Chapter of the American Dental Association, the Third District Dental Society is one of nine districts.  The Third District Dental Society represents Houston, Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Pike Counties. Officers for the Third District Dental Society include: President, President Elect, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer with their organizational year beginning June first and ending May thirty-first. Membership dues are paid annually to the American Dental Association National Headquarters, who in turn pay the Alabama Dental Association.  Each district is self-supporting.  Meetings for the Third District occur five times per year and provide continuing education for its membership through a program of speakers.

Scope Content: Contains organizational documents from the Third District Dental Society.  Records include incorporation document, constitution and by-laws, minutes, membership and dues records, meeting handouts and  correspondence.  Financial records include: bank statements, receipts, and bills from the Third District Dental Society.  This collection also contains by-laws, annual reports, and publications from the Alabama Dental Society and the American Dental Society.

Series 3. Officer Records, 1966-1997 [include correspondence, membership rosters, meeting attendance rosters bills, receipts, and bank statement, and Reference materials];  this series arranged chronologically by the Society's organizational year (June 1 - May 31), then type of record.

Series 4.  Alabama Dental Association Records and Publications, 1970-1992

Series 5.  American Dental Association Records, 1977-1981

Provenance: Donated by the Third District Dental Society of the Alabama Dental Assn. by resolution of its Board of Directors.  Contact with The Wiregrass Archives made by Dr. Nancy Hein.  Dr. Hein delivered the accession on afternoon of 11-21-08.

Processing Notes:  No obvious original order, so The Wiregrass Archives staff imposed series organization and internal arrangement.
