About the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio at TROY

Building a successful portfolio is vitally important to the artist or graphic designer entering the workforce or graduate school. 好色先生TV's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio will help you to develop a compilation of work that expresses your innovation, mastery of skills, and ability to research and complete projects. Whether you choose to focus in 2D, 3D, Photography, or Digital Studio, our faculty will guide and encourage you to hone your skills and build confidence to help you make your dreams a reality.

Exceptional Education

Within the bachelor of studio arts program at TROY, you will be introduced to desktop graphic applications, emerging technological advancements in art and design and principles of two-, three- and four-dimensional space and drawing. You will also examine the development of art from pre-history to the Gothic period focusing on the various social and cultural factors that determine the uses and appearance of art at different times. The BFA program requires admission through an interview and portfolio review process as the expectations for this academic and career path are considered highly exceptional in studio practice.

Hands-On Experience

TROY's studio arts curriculum also allows you to study while creating in hands-on environments. You will learn printmaking while producing black and white multiples in relief, intaglio, serigraphy and lithography. Your pottery and ceramics classes include hand-building, wheel throwing and glazing/firing techniques. You'll also have opportunities to take courses centered in the areas of painting, drawing the human form and exploring the fundamentals of digital color photographic processes, digital photography manipulation and editing and studio lighting.

Greg Skaggs serves as Department Chair and is an Associate Professor of Art & Design at 好色先生TV. Greg holds undergraduate degrees in Graphic Design and Art Education, and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Oklahoma.

Chris is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design and Assistant Chair of Art & Design at 好色先生TV, where he has been on the faculty since 2020.

Studio art encompasses visual art such as photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and ceramics. 2D Studio
The BFA degree in 2D Studio Concentration is intended for those students who are interested in pursuing a career or educational advancement in the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media. The BFA degree is widely considered to be the professional degree of choice for those students who desire to advance into the practice of fine arts or continuing graduate education.

Two-dimensional work has historically ranged from a variety of painting, printmaking, drawing and collage processes. Two-dimensional media also includes the exploration of a variety of media, concepts and processes culminating into works of art.

3D Studio
The BFA degree in 3D Studio Concentration is intended for those students who are interested in pursuing a career or educational advancement in the area of sculpture and ceramics. The BFA degree is widely considered to be the professional degree of choice for those students who desire to advance into the practice of fine arts or continuing graduate education.

Historically ceramics ranged from hand- building, wheel throwing and glazing/ firing techniques. Sculpture spans a variety of traditional sculpting process such as constructing, casting, carving and more. Three-dimensional media also includes the exploration of a variety of media and processes culminating into works of art. Three-dimensional work may be kinetic or static or even integrated with electronic devices for sound and motion.

Photography Studio
The BFA degree in Photo Studio Concentration is intended for those students who are interested in pursuing a career or educational advancement in the area of photographic arts. The BFA degree is widely considered to be the professional degree of choice for those students who desire to advance into the practice of fine arts or continuing graduate education.

Photo studio work may range from traditional landscape, architectural, portrait, fashion, and product photography to conceptual art. Photo media may also be hybridized with other media and processes culminating in works of art that are to be viewed from multiple formats.

Digital Studio
The BFA degree in Digital Studio Concentration is intended for those students who are interested in pursuing a career or educational advancement in the area of digital and electronic studio arts. The BFA degree is widely considered to be the professional degree of choice for those students who desire to advance into the practice of fine arts or continuing graduate education.

Digital studio work ranges from static to non-static computer imaging. The finished art form may be in print,projection, video, film, web, or other digital formats/processes. Digital media may also include hybridizing with an array of analog media and processes culminating into works of art that are to be viewed from multiple formats.

好色先生TV Art and Design Department Chair Greg Skaggs and Assistant Chair Chris Stagl had the opportunity earlier this month to travel to Changzhou, China where they worked closely with 22 international students at Changzhou's Institute of Technology.
