TROY's business degree with a concentration in risk management and insurance is one of the few programs in the nation where you can focus on the specialty insurance market, excess and surplus lines (E&S). This insurance covers risks that standard insurance companies won't, such as coal mines, cargo ships, aviation, etc. That makes E&S an exciting and rewarding sector for RMI jobs, where you'll be continually challenged in your career. Through our robust internship program, you'll make connections that can lead to rewarding RMI careers helping people and individuals manage and anticipate risk. Nearly 90% of our students complete at least one paid internship before graduation. Earn Your State Producer License Before You Complete Your B.S.B.A.

Even before you complete your business degree at TROY, you'll have the opportunity to complete your state producer license in Alabama, allowing you to sell insurance products in the state. Most TROY students earn their state producer license in their second semester of the risk management degree program. 

The risk management and insurance degree coursework is closely aligned with the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional designations. You'll be able to work toward these and other designations while pursuing your business degree at TROY.

Dr. Courtney Baggett

Dr. Courtney (Bass) Baggett, Director of the risk management and insurance program, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics, Finance and Risk Management and Insurance. A 2012 graduate of TROY's RMI program, Dr. Baggett was appointed director of the RMI program in August 2019. She earned her Ph.D. at Florida State University in 2016 and holds the CPCU, ASLI and ARM professional designations.

Dr. Dan Yang

Dr. Dan Yang, Assistant Professor of Risk Management and Insurance, joined the Sorrell College of Business faculty in 2022. She holds a Ph.D. in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia and an M.S. in Actuarial science from Temple University. She has worked in national and international accounting firms in China.
