Students working on electronics.
鈥淐oming from a small town, I struggled at the beginning of my college journey, but with the help and encouragement of my classmates and professors at TROY, I was able to push through. I gained a ton of experience in my various internships, including as Test Engineer and RF Engineer at Johnson Outdoors and AI and Enterprise Electronics Corporation, which I will always be grateful for. The people at both places will always have a place in my heart. The four years at TROY challenged me mentally and academically, but more than anything, it tested me spiritually. My Christian faith helped me through my college career, and now I'm a graduate of TROY. I would like to thank all the TROY faculty for the countless hours they put into helping me reach a point in my life I never thought I'd see.鈥

鈥淚 started the major in the fall semester of 2019 and began my journey to become an electronics engineer. Over that journey, I learned everything about what it means to be an engineer and how to take in vast amounts of information to solve everyday problems. During that time, I interned at the United States Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory as an Airworthiness Test and Evaluation Engineer, conducting testing on medical equipment to be used on aircraft in an active battlefield environment. After I graduate in May 2023, I will be starting a new job as an Air Force Electronics Engineer working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. This major led me to where I am now and opened up so many opportunities for me to learn and expand my own knowledge about the nature of the world.鈥

Faculty Profiles

Dr. Raj K Vinnakota

Dr. Raj K Vinnakota

Dr. Vinnakota is an Assistant Professor and electronics engineering technology degree program coordinator. His research interests include novel optoelectronic devices, metal and semiconductor-based plasmonics and enhanced light-matter interactions, nanophotonics and heat transfer.
Dr. Shaimum Shahriar

Dr. Shaimum Shahriar

Dr. Shahriar received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso in December 2019. During his doctoral studies, he studied organic-inorganic halide perovskite solar cells. He worked with Dr. Deidra Hodges, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, to fabricate and characterize perovskite thin films and perovskite solar cells with a planar structure. Before joining the Department of Chemistry and Physics at TROY University in Fall 2023, he was a Post-Doctoral Scholar working with Dr. Stephen Kuebler, Professor of Chemistry and Optics, on bioinspired spatially-varying photonic crystals (SVPCs). SVPCs are fabricated by multi-photon lithography (MPL) to support the development of chemical warfare agent (CWA) sensors based on artificial substrates inspired by nanophotonic structures found in nature. His current research interests include flexible solar cells, energy-harvesting materials and technologies, nano-mechanical energy harvesting, and photonic sensors.

FAQ About the Electronics Engineering Technology Program

Learn more about the field and benefits of a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering technology.
What is electronics engineering technology?
Electronics engineering technology (EET) is a specialized branch of engineering that focuses on the practical application of electronics principles and technology to design, develop and maintain electronic systems and devices. It is closely related to electrical engineering but places more emphasis on hands-on skills and the implementation of electronic systems in real-world applications.
What do electronic engineering technologists do?
Electronic engineering technologists and technicians help other engineers design and develop circuitry required for controlling equipment used in the design, automation and testing industries. Some of the tasks electronics engineers perform include designing and developing prototypes and products; analyzing the performance and functionality of electronic systems and products; and testing and troubleshooting electronic components, circuits and devices.
What is the difference between electronics and electrical engineering?
Electronics and electrical engineering are closely related. The main difference is that electrical engineering deals with larger-scale systems, such as power systems, signal processing and communications. Electrical engineers may work on systems and devices that use high-voltage electricity, such as power plants, transformers, generators or motors.

Electronics engineers work on small-scale systems that use lower-level voltage. They work with electronic devices and components such as smartphones, computers, televisions, navigation systems and medical devices.
Is electronics engineering technology a good career?
Electronics engineering technology is a career with a positive outlook and is good for those interested in working with technology and solving practical problems. Because nearly all industrial manufacturing and testing equipment is powered by electronic circuitry, electronics engineering technology program graduates are in high demand. According to , the average salary for electronics engineering technicians is $67,801 per year.
